Life is too short for dull yarns.

Hand dyed yarn by indie dyer Joan Boesen

Painter´s Yarn is a dye studio situated in the beautiful lakeland area near the Skye Mountain in Jutland, Denmark.

In this ideal location small batches of hand dyed yarn are produced by me, Joan, inspired by mood, life, nature and wishes from you, the customers. I use high quality yarns and dyes to ensure that you get a yarn that will be beautiful to look at, satisfy your needs and will last for long term use if you care for it properly.

My passion is colours. I hope to give you the joy of using beautiful colours in your garments to enhance the natural beauty of you. My colourpalette is broad and it includes pastels, maturated and bold colours so you can choose your favourites.

I dye all my yarns by hand and I always try to optimise the process, reducing waste of water and colour to make my yarns so sustainable as possible.

Note that every skein is unique. Even in the same dye bath there will be a slight variation between the skeins. If you need more skeins to your project, I recommend that you alternate the skeins partially or through the whole work to ensure an even colourdistribution.

If you want to visit the Painter's Yarn universe, you're welcome in my workshop and showroom.

Why Painter's Yarn?

I'm from a family with a long tradition in good craftsmanship. My grandfather, father and brothers are all painters and the family company, which I have been a part of for years, are well known for the good craftmanship they provide.

As a child I was really fascinated by the spirals formed by the colours my father and grandfather added to the paint when they hand stirred it, so my fascination of colours has deep roots and goes way back. The brushes I use on many of my photos are infact brushes from my grand fathers workshop.

Painter's Yarn is a homage to my family and to good craftmanship.
